Disney, the most magical place on Earth, the place where every child wants to be a princess, hero, animal, toy and even villain for just one day! It certainly can be a MAGICAL experience, when all of your money MAGICALLY disappears by the end of the day! No, I am not a cynic. I actually LOVE everything Disney! I have been to Walt Disney World in Florida at least once a year if not more since 1988. The year I was born. What I have learned over the years is that Disney can be an affordable trip!
I am about to sprinkle a little pixie dust over your bank account! No more praying for that fairy godmother because you will be a part of the Mousekasave Club!
For those of you traveling from out of state or Floridians staying for the weekend, these tips are a sure way to get a little more Disney for your buck!
Disney Tip #1: When you begin to plan your trip, booking a hotel can be a super huge factor in how much spending money you have! One essential way to save before entering the park is booking a hotel that offers a free breakfast. This is one less meal, slicing into your budget. Many hotels now offer a hot breakfast with everything from yogurt to pancakes and all of the extras in between. Think of the number of people in your party and multiply that by at a minimum of 5 dollars and then by the number of days you are staying. Bippity Boppity Boom you just saved at least, however, much your calculation came out too!
Disney Tip #2: This is Florida people! It is going to rain. If you are like the wicked witch and don’t want to melt. Head over to the dollar store and pick up some ponchos. If they rip or get ruined you won’t mind tossing these babies in the trash. Ponchos in Disney can be costly! If you want to spend your money on a souvenir you will actually use when you get home, dollar store ponchos are the way to go!
Disney Tip #3: Ahoy and good day, pirates and princesses! Planning on heading to the popular Bippity Boppity Boutique or The Pirates League? Costumes can add a major dent to your ship, I mean pocket! One way to save is purchasing a Disney themed costume outside of the park. When you make your reservation let them know that you only need the minimum package! Your little one will still get the experience of feeling like royalty by getting their hair make up done without breaking the bank! (Extra tip: Purchase the costumes after Halloween when they are marked down as clearance!)
Disney Tip #4: If you are thinking about buying a meal plan, look at the price and the amount of food you need to be eating and how much time you want to spend sitting down in a restaurant! If you know that you won’t be able to eat all of the items that are included skip this option! Part of the plan is to make reservations to be at meals by a certain time. This can cut into the time you have to visit rides and shows! When you pay for tickets you want to get the most out of your time and a sit-down meal may not be the way to do it. If you are like me and can’t eat so much while walking around in the heat. Plan to purchase food as you go!
Disney Tip #5: All this talk of food is making me hungry! Snack time! If you like specific snack items pack them in your backpack! As long as they are the single serve size items you are allowed to bring them in the parks. You can splurge if you want for things like ice cream and Mickey-shaped pretzels, but for items like chips, trail mix, and candy bars purchase them in your local store! (couponers you can really add money back into your budget here) If you want to really save pop a bag of popcorn into the microwave and pack that in your bag instead of spending $5 in the park if you don’t plan on purchasing a souvenir bucket to bring home with you!
Disney Tip #6: You need a drink to wash all that down! In Disney, you can ask for a cup of ice water free of charge. Not a water drinker, don’t worry the Evil Queen can teach a few things about magic potions! Pack in your bag the single serve to go juice mixes! That free cup of water can be transformed into a drink that would have cost you more than you think!
Disney Tip #7: Hey Dopey! Most people forget to ask questions! When you are ordering food ask about single items or side dishes. For many kids, the meals provided are either too much or not enough. If you want to fill in a meal or drop items off, Disney offers items that are not part of the combo. You can ask for a side of mac n’ cheese without getting the entire $10 meal! It’s a great way for food to not go to waste!
Disney Tip #8: Want to buy souvenirs? This tip is for anyone who doesn’t mind opening a credit card. If you open a Disney credit card you will receive a discount on purchases over $50 in Disney Springs! (Check credit card applications for all special offers.)
Disney Tip #9: Last but not least, if at all possible, visit Disney in the low- season. When you book hotels in late August, September and January you can get great hotels for low cost! This way you can stay longer, see more and experience the magic!
So in my opinion, YOU ARE LATE FOR A VERY IMPORTANT DATE! Start planning your trip to Disney and remember these simple ways to save! Mickey will be happy that you stopped by!
